Morgans 51 / 2013 Letter in Kona, Big Island, Hawaii Dec 30, 2013

Hi family how are you all doing?

We had a great Christmas week. It was so wonderful being able to talk to all of you last week. So after we got off of Skype we went Christmas Caroling and Delivering Cookies to everyone. We made 600 homemade cookies to deliver to everyone. We started visiting the Less Actives and Widows in the Zone and still had 40 plates left over. So we decided to go to the Hospital and go Caroling there. We brought a big stack of plates in with us and asked the lady at the front desk if we could give them away and sing Christmas songs. There was 5 of us in our group, 3 Elders and 2 Sisters. We sang to a few people and it was amazing to see how much their spirits were lifted. When we walked in they were dull, sad, or just depressed. Then while we were singing to them, we could see their countenance brighten, and a happy twinkle in their eyes, and their mood lifted, and receive the spirit of Jesus Christ. Then we ran into a couple who told us they were less Active members of the Church. We sang to them and gave them cookies. They then asked if  we could give the wife a blessing, she was in the Hospital for a Major Health condition, and the Husband had been by her side the whole time. I asked her who she would like to do the Blessing, she looks around the room, and asks her husband if he will do the blessing. He was a little taken back by the wife picking him, but after a moment of thought, he said yes he would. I felt like i received a spiritual confirmation that the Husband needed to do the blessing for his wife. So he asked us what to say and how to start the blessing, and so we explain everything. He begins the Blessing by saying she will be healed and be able to finally return home to the family. Then he breaks down into tears in the middle of the blessing and is sobbing. He thanks Heavenly Father for sending us to them in the Hospital, and Pleads for Heavenly Father to bless us and our families. Then  finished the Blessing. It was so powerful, the spirit was so strong in the room. And i know he felt it. It was the most humble sincere, and simple blessing i have ever heard, it was truly straight from the heart. No edicate words or perfect English, but it was simple and powerful.

We continued through the Hospital visiting like 20 or so rooms, and caroling to all of them. We were there for about 2 hours, maybe 21/2 hours. The last room we visited was a lady who gave birth to a son only hours before. The Baby was fast asleep on a crib next to the bed, and the Husband and wife were talking to each other. We stepped in and asked if we could sing them a Christmas Song. We sang "Oh come all ye Faithful," and "Away in a Manger." It was so powerful just staring at the Baby, thinking about Baby Jesus, and his birth in a manger. The Words of the Song sank deep into my heart, and the Spirit touched all of us in the room. It was an experience i will never forget.

I had a great week. Elder Christenson, my companion is getting transferred to Mililani. And Elder Dzieman is going to Mililani as well. I will be District Leader with a newer missionary that's coming from Maui. So this week will be an exciting week for us, I'm gonna get my new companion on Tuesday tomorrow.
I love you all thanks for everything!

I’m at 112 KG which is like 240 pounds.  I want you to see me enjoying my mission and pictures do that for people. Love you.

Durocher Christmas Celebration Dec. 25th & 29th 2013

I don't know why this has goofy spacing....I tried to fix it but it did it again... Sorry about the peculiar look.  I'm assuming it looks odd to those reading as it has spacing problems when I post the letter, but it looks correct when I set up the letter to post....???

Hello Elders!
What a strange week this has been. Strange in the way Christmas was midweek
and now it's the weekend with more Christmas Celebration for the
Durochers! I wanted to start this letter early as tomorrow may be a little busy in
the late afternoon. I'm having everyone here for dinner and gift opening on
Sunday (except Annalisa was given her's before when she was here for the
Wedding.)
It was SO great to talk and see both of you on Christmas Day! What I wanted
most for Christmas was for you both to see and talk to each other and I was so
blessed to have that happen! I thank The Lord dearly for time to line up that
Morgan was just ending his time, and Ethan came a little before 3pm so that
both of you were online at the same time! I was overjoyed! You both looked
great and it was such a blessing to be able to use Skype and SEE you with
mine eyes! Whooot! It was funny too because we had Nick on his cell phone
trying to get lined up for the Skype video window and then we filmed both of you
talking, which Mike put on my computer! I was glad your Dad arrived to see you
both as well. Nothing like technology to bring Utah, Hawaii and Santa Rosa,
Argentina together! I'm amazed! I'm grateful! It was sure hard to end the
conversation with Ethan...finally it was Lindsay who pushed the button! I just
couldn't do it! My heart is so full of gratitude to be able to have our Christmas
shared with both of you! After we let Ethan go, and I'm saying again, That was
Hard... Mike had to go get his friend Alicia and her son Tegan back to Tooele,
and David and Lindsay were due at her Grandparents for Christmas dinner, and
Dan had to meet up with Denise in SLC to look at lights.....Ummm, Mom was
going to be alone! Nawww...David & Lindsay invited me to come with them so I
hurried to gather my things and followed them to SLC. Lindsays family was so
nice and welcomed me the party crasher to their table and it was a joyful
evening. Such a nice family and I'm so grateful to Lindsay for having me come,
and impressed by how genuine her extended family is. By 8:30pm or so, D&L
headed up to Park City where they were staying for their honeymoon, and I
headed home, quite satisfied with the day! I didn't have to work on the 26th, but
I went in anyway because the house was a bit too quiet! I got a lot of catch up
work done on Thursday and Friday at work as the phone was very quiet as well!
Nice! I left a tad early too and went to the mall to browse. Found a good deal
on some earrings and just walked around.
Today, I cleaned things up at home and am getting prepared for the boys and
families to come. I made Stuffing, but not in a turkey, and my famous fudge! I'll
make the Curry Chicken and Broccoli for Sunday dinner and then we will open
gifts.
I'm very excited about one special gift I want to tell you about. Each one of
your siblings, MIke, Nick, David and Annalisa each donated $100 to the LDS 1
Mission Fund! You each received $50 from your 4 siblings to equal $200 each,
that went toward your mission! I sent the money through our ward so you'd both
have your mission accounts funded for December! I've wanted to tell you for
several weeks, but figured this letter after Christmas was the best time. Sweet
ehh! I am so overcome with love and gratitude for all my children!
12-29-13 David and Lindsay arrived last night and we checked out a gadget
that David was gifted by Lindsays brother in law who works for BestBuy. It's
called Google Cast and it transmitts from a phone or ipad or computer to the TV
screen! It was pretty cool!
Today after church the fun began with cooking the Sunday dinner meal. Nick
and family arrived and then Michael and Gavin. As food had to cook an hour,
we opened gifts and I first talked about the service of the Missionaries and the
devotion they have given to their missions and how we can best support them
as a family. Then we opened the other family gifts and most enjoyable was
watching the children! Cambree's favorite of the day was what Oma gave her in
a little color book, crayon, and sticker set in a plastic case! She was done after
getting that! Thanks Oma for the Nevada banners! Home Means Nevada to
Me!
All was going smoothly until I saw the rice didn't start cooking, so since we had
to wait some more, the boys took downstairs the 7 foot door I had gotten from
my work and set it up in Annies old room downstairs. We arranged the room to
fit the door now made table. I plan on putting up the Playmobil scenes like a
little multi-century city, complete with the train set! I've always wanted to set up
the different sets like the victorian dollhouse, the castle, the pirate ship, the
Indians and the various other sets I have collected over the past nearly 30
years! Michael was a baby when I discovered the German toys.
Well, the group of us did a great job of eating and making merry for our
Durocher family Christmas Day. I couldn't let people go without dividing up the
leftovers and sending it with them. Then we took a group photo and held up
photos of Ethan, Morgan and Annie! Not a complete photo with out the ones
out of town. I need to get a photo blown up of Annie with Apollo as he's become
a part of the clan! I'm a happy Mama this Christmas having talked to my
missionaries and to share the good times of the season with my children. Life is
Good!
The New Year is soon upon us and it's amazing to be 2014! Morgan is blessed
with 7 remaining months to give his best to his mission and Ethan will soon
have his first 6 months in the mission field! Wow! I'm so grateful for my family
and the people I get to hear call me Mom! Have a terrific New Years and God
Bless You Everyone!
Love, Mom <3 br="">

David & Lindsay's Wedding - Dec. 20, 2013

Elders and Family,
What an eventful week this was! The first three days of the week at work went quickly with many things to finish up before the 2 days I took off from work for David & Lindsay's wedding on Friday!  On Monday and Tuesday evening I baked the 12", 9" & 7" round cakes (x2) for the three tier cake.  I froze them until Thursday morning to insure freshness. I'm thinking I'll borrow Oma's commentary for the middle part here as it is so well described.

December 22, 2013
After I had a couple doctor appointments before going to Utah, I packed up and Grandpa took me to the Reno airport. I had requested a wheelchair to get from the check in to the Delta Gate, the farthest gate in the airport. The airport had changes since I last was there. Sara picked me up at the Salt Lake City Airport at 8 PM where I again had a wheelchair waiting for me. It is not that I can not walk at all, but can not go so far tugging my luggage. I was taken to Sara’s Jeep and thankfully the weather was good. Thursday the airport was closed as they had 6 inches of new snow and a cargo plane had a slide somewhere. Thursday was cake day. Sara had baked the layers before and froze them. I mixed up frosting in her Bosch mixer. I love the Bosch mixers as I 4 times the recipe a few times and in seconds it is mixed. We frosted the frozen layers in the middle while they were easy to handle. While they were thawing we progressed with other things, like show and tell. (-:  Then as I started to frost the outsides of the cake, Annalisa and Apollo came. They had a white knuckle drive from Idaho from the new snow on the road. After Annie had a chance to relax, we started in earnest on the cake. I had made some blossom type flowers with Royal frosting in Carson to experiment, so brought them with me and none broke. (Royal frosting gets hard when it dries.) Annie decorated the layers and I made roses. Annie is the designer and put things where she wanted them. Sara had bought dowels and cut them to support the layers that were on top of each other. By evening we had a beautiful three layer all white wedding cake with our team work. David spent the night at Sara’s. He was so happy I was there and I received many hugs. Annie built a tent of foil around the cake for the night. When we got up in the morning the dowels had slipped on the bottom layer from the weight of the two layers on top. After 50 years of making wedding cakes we had a leaning tower. At the shock, I cried. Went upstairs to my bed, gathered my thoughts and returned to the kitchen. We took the cake layer by layer apart. I made more frosting. Sara had a nice stainless steel round platter that was exactly the size we needed to set the middle layer on. More dowels before putting the top layer on. We had managed to save most of the flowers and were very grateful that all was in white. Annie piped the edges and repaired other places. I took the bottom and smoothed out the top and we used it as you would a sheet cake. Apollo held the cake while Sara drove to the wedding site. We were glad for his help. In the end it worked out well. After the wedding ceremony and Lindsay and David cut the cake, Annie, Apollo and I had cut and plated the bottom layer and we quickly served people at the tables cake. By that time, my body complained and I took extra pain meds. Lindsay’s Bishop married them and they plan to go to the temple in a year. Lindsay is sweet inside and out. The wedding was at 11 AM and we were all well out by two. The facility charged by the hour. I have no idea who paid the bill, but Sara and I felt happy at the end how well all went. One of Lindsay’s friends was the photographer, but she was shy. Michael had brought a young woman who is just a friend at this point, Alicia, and she got assertive and told people to get here and there for photos and Sara and the other gal with her camera took photos. Alicia was just great and moved things along well. Mike had Gavin there and Nick and Michelle had their kids with them. Alicia also had her son who seemed to be about 4 with her. Another big Oma joy was Heidi and her boyfriend, Michael, also attended the wedding in Salt Lake City. I was one happy lady! Lindsay’s family seemed very nice and were friendly to me, which I appreciated. Annie and Apollo drove to Idaho after the wedding as they had to work the next day. Nick had go to back to work afterward. I don’t remember where Mike and Gavin went.
As Sara and I were getting in her Jeep, Dan was a lost soul, not knowing where to go or do. Sara had procured tickets to a very special art show at BYU, so told him he could come if he wanted. He followed us. Heidi and Michael met us at the BYU Art Gallery. Another request for a wheel chair. Sara, Heidi or Dan pushed me about. Dan rented us all iPads with earphones. We pointed the iPad to the paintings and the picture came up and gave us choices. We mostly hit summery and the earphone icon and then were told history and what to look for. The exhibit was religious paintings by Carl Bloch, Heinrich Hofmann and Frans Schwartz from Denmark, Germany and some that were bought by a Rockefeller and in a New York City church. Wow! They were amazing and a once in a lifetime to view the precious works. We were told that the sites that they came from were left blank until they are returned. Obviously there was lots of security. The tickets were free, but we had to go at the appointed time the tickets had on them. Heidi and friend said goodbye at 5 PM as they had another activity to attend. We went to the gift shop with the intention of buying a calendar of some of the paintings. Dan bought them for us. I then said I wanted to take Sara and Dan out for dinner as Sara and I had not eaten much all day and were hungry. We went to an Olive Garden because I figured I could eat that food with my front tooth in. (I refuse to remove it in front of anyone.) Dan went to Tooele to stay at Mike’s house. Sara and I went home and looked at the photos she took and the calendar, talking and enjoying each other’s company. I organized my suitcase. We awoke Saturday to 3-4 inches of fresh snow! Then I worried whether my flight would still go. We had Mike, Nick and Grandpa checking things. Sara got me to the airport at 9:30 AM for my 11 o'clock flight. We had a little confusion at the security, but all worked out. My flight was about 35 minutes late taking off and they de-iced the wings before we left. Grandpa got to the airport early so after checking the flight information boards he waited in the Jeep for a while. All is well!
Love, Oma

Mom again here.....  I've been editing pictures for a couple hours so there was no reason to duplicate the well written commentary! :-)  After making sure Oma was taken care of after the security check, I went out to Tooele to watch Gavin open his Christmas gifts.  Mike did a great job of making his Christmas bright and happy! Mike also gave Hayden and Cambree cute little jackets and they were very pleased.  After the booty was collected and put away and we had a bite of Michaels home canned Sweet Peppers, I headed over to Nicks to check out his progress on the basement sheetrock.  He and Michelle put up a lot of sheets and while I was there helped with Dan to put up several 12 foot ceiling sheets.  It's looking like a real room and will be a warm/cool space for them as it's insulated well.  After a nice lunch of rice and taco toppings, I left for home but got sidetracked at Sheels. Didn't buy anything, but just looked around.  As usual after a house full, coming home to a quiet house is odd so I studied my lesson and went to bed.  Michael had come to Utah County as well to see Kelly Carter and friends, and then went back home.

I team taught my lesson at Church with the other fellow, Bro. Nelson, each taking 20 minutes with a Christmas theme.  Next week I will finish the lesson series and then we start the Old Testament. I've been excited to start Church all over again at 1pm as it was Caleb Worthens missionary homecoming today!  It was nice to see our old home ward and the people there.  I sat next to Cora Izatt and it's amazing that she doesn't age a bit!  I also sat with Doug and Diana Walters on my other side, so it was good to see them too.  I wrote down what Caleb said in his talk so I'll have to summarize it on another letter for Morgan, but I did insist on getting his picture!  Caleb is doing great and hopes to get into BYU Provo for the Spring semester.  I talked with Nathaniel as well and he's working for the LDS Church in SLC.  Lineah Cancilla Yapias was there and she came and said hello.  She's looking great in her 5th or 6th month of pregnancy.
It's a girl so I know she'll have fun being a mother.  I also talked with Brother Allen Myrup and he wanted to know how each of my children were doing and I gave short reports.  He asked if I'd say hello to all of you and say Merry Christmas.  (Ethan...& Kwinn....at my ward, Brother Fox asked that I specifically say Hello to you and say Merry Christmas!  Cool ehh!)

Well, as Oma mentioned it is a long letter and much to report, but I must say Merry Christmas and I'm so excited to talk with you on Christmas day!  Whooootttt!  I'm excited to hear that Morgan can Skype as well, but I haven't heard what time.
My Skype name is under my Lucydawg712@yahoo.com with user name:  Lucydawg712
I hope that everyone else in the family will get signed up for Skype and let the missionaries know what your call name is.

I love you lots guys and may you truly understand the enormity of my love for you and the Love of our Lord Jesus Christ during this holiday season.
Much Love,  Mom  <3 span="">

PS, In the photo with Annie it shows the ornaments she painted for people.
